Linkbait that Gets Links
December 10th, 2008
We all want to get on Digg.com or Reddit.com’s homepage with one of our links or get tons of traffic from StumbleUpon. These are the largest social sites on the internet right now.
Submit Your Linkbait to the Top 3+
Of course, submit to the top 3 – Digg.com, Reddit.com and StumbleUpon. Getting to the homepage for those sites that can be tough – so let’s take a look at smaller, more targeted sites.
I’ve included a list of a variety of 30 different, quality social sites which have more targeted audiences.
These sites have less overall traffic, but find the right ones and get very targeted, highly converting traffic.
Importantly, many of these sites do not have the dreaded “NoFollow” tag that remove the backlink value of your submission. This allows your link to be picked up and spread around – the best of all outcomes.
The Old Fashioned Way – Ask for a Backlink
Most websites that have good PR get generic emails daily asking for backlinks. Go one better – maybe two – send a specific request and then call the appropriate person. If you have content that will benefit the website they might consider a backlink. Your website has to provide value to the other site.
Go Lateral
Find lateral websites who are on topic for your website (meaning not a direct competitor) and offer to write a page on their service as it relates to yours. Ask for a backlink in return from anchor text on their website to your description page. It’s a win-win. You have content on your a topic in your business, you get a great backlink and the other website has an outside source recommending them.
Be sure to choose a website with a high PR page where you anchor text linnk will be. At least PR3, but anything over PR5 is excellent.
Hot Topic for a Video
Find an interested and highly informative area in your business and do an in-depth page on it. Or better yet – do a video. Look around for websites who might be interested in your video and changes are they will pick it up and embed it along with an excellent backlink to your website.
Videos don’t have to be live, they can be Flash, PowerPoint – just about anything that can be visual and interesting.
Widgets
Do a great Widget on your topic. The same plan goes for Widgets as for Video. Find sites that might be interested and offer the Widget to them. If it’s worthwhile, they’ll pick it up along with the backlink. Score!
Quiz
Start a quiz – sound like it might be too off target – but a well constructed quiz will get passed around. Try one.
Emails
Overdone you say? Maybe.
But about once a week I get something so interesting I pass it along. Find something irresistible in your business and start an email chain.
The Take Away
Do anything and everything to get a quality backlink. You get good backlinks by not doing it the “internet way”. Get personal, with phone calls and email directed to a person. Think about what you would like and then do it.
