If you need to be found on the internet, you need SEO.
Unless all your business is by referral or other marketing efforts, and your website is essentially a brochure, you need to be on Page #1 on Google for keywords that will convert into sales.
Going In-house with Your SEO
If your website is big enough you can probably afford to have a full time SEO specialist.
But most small businesses can’t afford a full time expert. A good option is to train your webmaster to implement a plan designed by an SEO analyst.
SEO is constantly changing and experts in the SEO field research and adapt every day.
A webmaster trained in the basics of SEO can execute an SEO strategy with time and effort, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Hiring an SEO Analyst
Most SEO agencies are very flexible about the scope of the work they will do for you. You can hire a company to do all your SEO work including redesigning your existing website, compiling resources, researching strategies and tactics, article creation, backlink program and execution of the SEO plan.
A good SEO program takes into consideration a lot of variables and builds a practical program with targeted goals.
These targeted goals are tracked by web analytics which very accurately demonstrate the results of your SEO program.
Too Much Too Soon
Google is always looking for spammy sites. An over-optimized site done too quickly will trigger Google’s algorithm as a site trying to spoof the search engines.
Google will put up their spam filters and drop you out of the SERPS (search engine results placement).
Too Little Too Late
One of the top three criteria for Google’s algorithm for inclusion in the SERPS is the age of the URL. An unsubstantial SEO program will work very slowly over time. The results you get will probably be the same without any SEO effort at all. Over time your site will age and build up credibility. You’d be better off without any direct SEO efforts and saving your money for more profitable marketing efforts.
SEO The Middle Way
The design of your SEO program takes into consideration the condition of your existing website, your place in the market with your competitors, your current rankings and how your visitors are converting on your current keywords.
From here there are a range of possibilities including reconfiguring your website to increase web traffic and visitor conversion, researching the best keywords for you and your market goals and structuring a long term program, usually 12 months, to achieve these goals.
Web analytics lets you track with precision how your visitor arrived at your site. It will also tell you how your visitors navigated your site, where they lingered, what are the most popular viewing pages and which landing pages convert the best.
Web analytics lets you target your successful stategies, cull out the lesser techniques, and allows you to build on what’s working.
Find the middle ground where your ROI can justify the expense and effort.
This is done though testing, adapting and revising your program to give you the ROI you’re looking for.
